Offering support in times of need

9 year old Shadia Muhamedi from South Africa lived with her father after her mother passed away in 2003. Sadly, he too recently passed away. When she recieved Muslim Aid’s condolences, she was happy to see the staff and was very emotional, She told them that she felt ‘loved, comforted and consoled.’

Shadia now lives with her uncle, who has become her official guardian.

Empowering Women

Women working together to learn skills within the textile industry

As author Diane Mariechild so rightly puts it, ‘A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform.’ So if women are not respected and treated with dignity and justice, what hope is there for their children to grow up as independant, confident adults?

Highlighting International Women’s Day on March 8th, Muslim Aid is promoting the empowerment of women in the developing world. Through our work we help women like Asmaa Karim, a 32 year old widow and mother of 3 who lived in poverty when she lost her husband due to sectarian killings and deportations in Iraq. With our support she established a career in the textiles industry and is now able to attend to her children’s basic needs, including their education.

Now she is happy with the help she recieved from Muslim Ais and hopes to continue charitable projects to help more needy women.

Changing Destinies

Children are one of the biggest assets and the future of this world. Sadly they are often born into suffering and deprived homes, living in complete and utter poverty with no hopes or dreams whatsoever of living a happy and content life like they should do.

Udayangani Jayarathne’s mother has two very bright daughters in Sri Lanka. Her eldest started her A-levels but couldn’t pursue them due to the family’s financial situation and her youngest Udayangani, had immense difficulties attending school. The mother went to work at a seed research institute in Kantale but even that was not enough to make ends meet. After receiving assistance from the Rainbow Family Programme, Udayangani was able to continue her studies without any interruptions. She said that her school in Kantale is far away from her village which does not even have any form of public transport to take her to the main road. Thanks to the support of the Rainbow Family Programme, Udayangani was able to get a bicycle which helped her cover the distance from her village to the main road and therefore making it possible for her to attend school without missing a day.

Destinies changed forever and the possibility of bright futures is what The Rainbow Family programme offers to children who once had nothing to look forward to and now have great dreams of a brilliant future.
